Val told me today that almost every state in the country has snow. We have a lot of snow in the San Juan Mountains and plenty on the ranch. But this time of year, the snow gets slushy and wet during the day when the sun is out. It still gets cold at night.I grew a very thick coat of fur for the winter and always stay warm.
The whole herd likes when it snows. The snow sticks to our fur, head and beards and we look like a herd of white buffalo. We run and play in the powdery flakes. The young calves kick up their heels and jump in the piles when it snows a lot.
I like to see my breath when I breathe and snort.
A new calf was born two weeks ago on the Flying Eagle Bison Ranch. She is still very red. Did you know that some Native Americans used to call the January full moon 'The Moon of the Red Calf?' January was the time bison calves were born when Native Americans were the only people who lived in North America.
